Janis Galbraith Fitch Biography
Janis
received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing from the
University of Delaware in 1979. She has been painting ever since, and
has participated in many group and one-woman shows. Her work is in
collections in the United States and in Europe.
The
Cape is a particular source of inspiration for Janis. As she says in her
own words, “Cape cod is a magical place for me. My first trip to North
Truro was as a baby, and I have spent some of every summer there since
then. The skies, light and shadow, and the architecture of the Cape are
the inspiration for much of my work. Not only do I see things that I
feel compelled to paint, but is seems to recharge me for the year ahead.
When I am at home, away from the Cape, the Cape is always on my mind;
and certain sounds, smells and skies “feel” like Cape Cod. When I paint
a Cape scene, I am somehow able to transport myself there, and,
hopefully, take the viewer along. Occasionally, other things inspire me.
Usually it is the Holstein cows that we have in Southeastern
Pennsylvania.
I
paint in oils, and I prefer bold color to infuse my paintings with the
intensity of emotion that I feel.”
